2016.1.25~2016.1.26

The first department outing and library tour to Kaohsiung Public Library and Dadong Arts Center Library was held in winter 2015. For this year, 2016, we have made our destination to Sun Moon Lake in central Taiwan and visited National Tsing Hua University Library, Shuili Public Library and National Library of Public Information. The tour was coordinated by Dr. Pao-Nuan Hsieh and Dr. Tung-Mou Yang. Moreover, Dr. Shanju Lin Chang, the department director, guided the tour with four other LIS faculty members; approximate 50 students joined this two-day trip. The highlight of this trip was Dr. Diane H. Sonnenwald, the past president of ASIS&T, as well as two alumni Shu-Lan Chen and Shi-Rong Ruan accompanied us through the tour.

National Tsing Hua University Library

National Tsing Hua University Library operated since 2013, and it is famous for its worldwide innovative design. Taking UHF RFID technology for example, with this technique, readers can not only self-check-out their reserved books, but also browse those popular items which were already reserved. Furthermore, in order to make both the design and services more efficient for users, Tsing Hua University Library integrates cutting-edge programming ideas into their services and environment.

National Library of Public Information

The architecture and services of National Library of Public Information (NLPI) are innovative. The NLPI holds several activities to bridge the gap between users and information. The NLPI also provides senior reading/learning area, children’s library, Chinese/foreign collections area for promoting reading among all citizens.

Thanks for the department for holding this two-day trip! It provides precious opportunities for all faculty and students to have experiences in recognizing these distinguishing libraries, and most important of all, to have fun together!
