為提高編目品質，建立編目之標準，國家圖書館已陸續編訂多項編目規範，包括『中國機讀編目格式第三版』、『中國權威機讀記錄格式』、『國家圖書館電腦類類表』、『國家圖書館程式語言代碼表』、『國家圖書館套裝軟體代碼表』等，俾使各館編目品質一致，提高資源共享之效益。
