2015-2-4~5

The very first department outing and library tour happened during winter 2015. The tour was coordinated by Dr. Pao-Nuan Hsieh with the support from the department director Dr. Shanju Lin Chang. About 80 people joined this two-day trip to Kaohsiung, including eight faculty members and about 70 students. This two-day trip provided great opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to get to know each other and have fun together.

The highlight of this trip was the library tours to Kaohsiung Public Library and to Dadong Arts Center Library. The architecture and services of both libraries were innovative. The new building of Kaohsiung Public Library (KPL) opened on New Year’s Day 2015, and the KPL demonstrates a new public library model; Dandong Arts Center Library engages local communities and integrates innovative programming ideas into their services and events. The directors of both libraries, Cheng-Yi Pan and Hsin-Jou Hung (NTU LIS class of 2004), guided the tour with the help from several of our alumni who worked at the libraries and other librarians. The NTU Kaohsiung Alumni Association also greeted our faculty with lunch at a great local restaurant. Faculty and students all enjoyed the trip, and many students said that they can’t wait for the next trip!
